Parent Mentors

The desire to form parents and caregivers to accompany their peers is born from the recognition that relational evangelization is the most organic and fruitful way to bring others to Christ. We desire to train mentors to minster to others as Jesus did, through friendship and sharing life with one another. Candidates do not need a theological degree to do God’s work, they only need a heart that loves and seeks Him and have a desire to bring the people in their lives closer to Him.

Help is All Around

Candidates who will serve as mentor parents (or caregivers) have been identified by their parish leadership team as parents who are ready for an opportunity to grow in their relationship with God and who desire to minister to others in their community. Mentor parents will receive ongoing (quarterly) formation alongside the CPI Program Advocate and will be trained in the art of accompaniment and evangelizing catechesis. They will learn how to ask good questions, how to break the ice, exercise radical hospitality, host a small group, share your faith story, and bring the Gospel to others. Mentor parents will also meet with the Program Director and other mentor parents once a month for a check-in and for additional guidance and support in hopes of forming a smaller community of prayer and support. The CPI Program Director, Program Advocate, and Design Team want to work with candidates to help them discern how to approach peer-to-peer ministry. For some, this might mean something a little more formal, such as hosting a small group in your parish or home, for others it could be something more informal, such as reaching out intentionally to the other moms in your child’s playgroup, inviting another family from Church over for dinner, asking another parent to grab coffee, or listening to someone’s story. We want to equip mentors to do the Lord’s work, to gather people together so that all parents and caregivers in our communities might experience the joy of growing closer to Jesus through authentic Christ-centered friendships.
